Should I buy it?!

Lately I have been really wanting to move ahead on our master bedroom. Nothing crazy, just like paint and proper bedding. Currently our master is completely mismatched. We have like 5 different types of furniture, old curtains that don’t really go with anything, and we sleep with only a bottom sheet and separate comforters 🙂 Parker has never let us use a top sheet. I’m super used to it now, and I actually like it, as well. could go back to a top sheet, but it would never work for us. Parker is incapable of acting normal with a top sheet. Its miserable when we sleep in a bed that has one. I also quite like having my own comforter (mine is a super little duvet type blanket that Parker bought me from Restoration Hardware while we were dating because I was always cold). There is no fighting for covers throughout the night. BUT it looks like heathens live in our bedroom. Maybe we are? I HAVE to close our door when people come over just in case they have to chase their kids up the stairs and happen to look into our bedroom. I realized it was bad when my 6 year old had a friend over and I was even too embarrassed for her to glance in there when she walked by. Part of that is because its always messy. The bed is never “made” – whatever that would mean for us 🙂 There are always baskets of clean laundry; and I always have a pile of clothes I’ve worn but aren’t “dirty” on top of our chest. Here are some reminders of where are bedroom stands now (but cleaned up):

We bought this bed and dresser, both of which we really like (except some of the finish has come off the headboard 🙁 ), last year. Then we did the mudroom and the master bedroom came to a halt.

Here was a plan I came up with at one point:

However, I recently started looking at bedding again. Nothing excited me (and I don’t like to buy something unless I’m really excited about it) until I saw this:

Anthropologie
Bedding

What do you think??? It is all on sale plus 30% off the prices you see. I really like it and think it all works well together. Its something I am finally excited about. My only concern is that it is light in color. Three of the Smiths don’t typically do well with light colors. I mean I do feel like it would be more for show than us actually using it. I might be talking myself out of it right now. I think the look is great, but how do we live with it? I need advice! Do you think it goes with our headboard and dresser? Do you think we could turn into normal people and not ruin it? Is it leaning too shabby chic? Give me everything you’ve got.

  1. Ummmm, I’m firmly in the “if you don’t absolutely love it, dream about it, can describe it in great detail two weeks after seeing it then don’t buy it” club…..unless you desperately NEED it or it’s 90% off of the original price. I’m saying this as a person who bought many things that I “really liked” that ended up not being suitable for our lifestyle….some things because I desperately wanted a room to look better, some because they were 40 or 50 percent off and some I bought for my dream life and not my real life. You know, the one with dirty dogs and messy kids and acrobatic cats and a sloppy husband, lol! Sooooo many things ended up at Goodwill!

However, if you love the set and are content in the knowledge that you’re likely buying it just for show, I believe it works well with the wall color and will look nice against the dark wood of your bedframe. And, should you decide to paint the walls in the shade of blue in the picture with the flower, you’d have a very elegant room. But I’m seeing some rose pink in your mood board. Is that a color that you want to incorporate into your bedroom? If so, I don’t know if it would play well with the bright gold and blue grey of the comforter set.

It’ll be interesting to see what you decide!

    1. Thanks so much for the feedback! The mood board I made was like a year ago and was just one idea. I am definitely not committed to the rose pink. I would stick to the colors of the bedding if I bought it. I also don’t want to buy this if its not a firm yes!! I’m still trying to decide if its practical. I playing around with just getting the pillow cases. I know I love those and we can live with those. I’m just worried that the duvet cover isn’t practical. I’ll let you know what we decide!!

  2. It’s so hard to decide on bedding when you’re not “normal” sleepers. I can sympathize with that predicament as we aren’t either. A duvet has never been practical for us and I turn into a crazy person trying to wrestle the comforter in or out of one. I love quilts but find them too heavy…..most went to Goodwill (wasted money, sigh). I found a pretty comforter and sham set some years ago and the set was quite inexpensive but had my favorite green, Ivory and a touch of rose color scheme in a quilt design look. I found an ivory bed skirt to go with it and sage green sheets. It’s been wonderful but it’s getting very worn since we use it year round. Only problem is, is that I haven’t found anything that I like half as well to replace it with. So I hope it lasts until I find another set that I really love!
