A craft?!?

I don’t do crafts. As a kid, I loved drawing and crafting. For some reason, I’m just too lazy as an adult. It seems like more of a chore or something I have to try to do perfectly rather than enjoy. Like, I don’t really even like carving pumpkins. I just like to come up with ideas and make Parker do it 🙂 BUT, tonight I did a craft! It was the easiest craft of all time, but I’ll still count it. I have a pinterest board titled “crafts easy enough for the lazy,” and this would fit perfectly on that board. It took me about 15 minutes, and I will do a second coat tomorrow that will take me another 15 minutes.

I was looking online for umbrella holders/stands to put in the mudroom. The kids love their umbrellas and demand to use one if there is even the chance of a rain drop falling on their heads. Eventually, they can put them in their lockers, but I just thought an umbrella stand might be cute instead. Plus, it will give them a place to dry off if they are too wet for the locker. I came across this one:

This is a Michaels project idea.

I loved the metal with a pop of color. I also loved that Michaels told me exactly what products to use to make this. I followed their suggestion on which paint to use, but I bought a different paint applicator and a different bucket. This bucket was a little to short at only 12 inches. I was afraid it would tip over and just look too small. Here were my other choices:

From left to right: 1) Amazon 16 inches tall $20.67 2) Great Rooms Decor 18 inches tall $20 3) Joann Fabric & Craft Stores 14 inches tall $7.79

I chose the 3rd option because it was significantly cheaper, and I didn’t have to wait on it. I just went and picked it up at the store. It was also very convenient that there were ridges at the bottom. I just lined my painter’s tape up with the top ridge.

Tip: Tape in small sections. You won’t be able to use one long piece of tape on a bucket like mine (because its not a cylinder – the diameter where the bottom of the tape hits is different than the diameter where the top of the tape hits). So tape until it wants to wrinkle or veers off of the line. Then start a new piece of tape. #geometrylessonoftheday

I used the Martha Stewart multi-surface satin acrylic craft paint in Spring Pasture. I chose this green color because of some of my inspiration pics (see bottom of this post) for the mudroom. Plus, green has been my one and only favorite color. I’ve never swayed. #loyal

I used the Martha Stewart roller and tray because Michaels didn’t have the foam pouncer set that they suggested. I doubt it made much of a difference, but I will say that my paint was not totally smooth; it was a little textured from this roller.

Take the tape off while the paint is still wet, and voila!
