I’m back!

Oh my gosh! It’s been almost a year since I last blogged!! There are several reasons for that. Mostly, we weren’t doing that many exciting things to our house, so I didn’t feel excited to blog. I could have forced myself to keep it up, but I do this for fun and that wouldn’t have been fun. Also, our kids are getting older and involved in more things and they actually have some homework. This leaves me with less time. Life feels a bit crazy most of the time. I also found out I was pregnant and had a baby since the last post! So we’ve just been enjoying life and saving money for the major project we are about to take on.

We are about to REDO OUR FLOORS!!!! I’ve been talking about this pretty much since I started the blog. I even said we were going to do it and gave a time frame that we didn’t stick to. BUT, it’s really happening this time. The floors have been ordered! Here’s what we ended up with:

We have looked at floors consistently for years. These are the best looking pre-finished floors we found in all of our years of searching (in our opinion, of course). Now we just hope they will be decently durable, as well! I’ve explained in detail our reasons for replacing floors, but here is a quick reminder: 1) we love wood floors but didn’t have the budget for them when we built 2) our choices for flooring were limited with our builder, so the upgrade to wood wasn’t worth it in our minds 3) our carpet is low quality and our tile is cracked in a lot of places 4) we had an elderly dog that had lots of accidents at the end of his life

Also, remember how I once explained how floors affect everything?!? That means we are also doing a fireplace makeover and a new floor in our 1st floor bathroom/powder room. SO exciting!

Here is a very basic to-do list:

  1. Order wood floors
  2. Order tile floors
  3. Order brick and moldings
  4. Rip out carpet (sunroom, great room, dining room)
  5. Demo tile
  6. Demo fireplace (sunroom and great room)
  7. Treat subfloor to get rid of dog smells
  8. Fireplace makeover (hearth and surround)
  9. Lay wood floors
  10. Lay bathroom tile
  11. Trim

Here’s how we are currently living (waaah 🙁 )

It actually got worse a couple hours ago. I’ll take more pictures and post soon!

Right now we are working on planning the fireplace makeover because the hearth needs to go in before the wood floors. We are also trying to pick out bathroom tile. I think each one of those may require their own blog post. I’m super excited about both of them. I also want to give you a quick post on the things that we DID complete over the last year. Nothing major at all, but a few little things that I really like.

SO, since there are not a lot of pictures in this post (and what is a home-improvement blog without pictures?), I will leave you with the two pictures that are inspiring our fireplace and bathroom plans the most at this point, and then I will give you a more detailed post on each in the near future.

I’ve also done a post about the fireplace in the past. Those inspiration pics are still guiding our decisions, which I love. It means I haven’t changed my mind on what I like! So hopefully I will always like it!

Please stay tuned for so many fun changes at our corner house. I love the planning and can’t wait to share our final plans for the fireplace and bathroom. In the meantime, I will try to stay sane as my house gets torn apart! Follow me on instagram for in-between-blog-post updates.
